Dining at the Lowell Hotel
Majorelle, the new highly anticipated French restaurant at the Lowell Hotel is named after the gardens in Marrakech. Charles Masson, formerly of La Grenouille, heads the restaurant. His culinary skills and floral decorations have made Majorelle the go-to dining spot in New York City. Diners have a choice of eating in the sumptuous main dining room or sitting in the skylit garden.
The menu is classic French cuisine with Mediterranean and Moroccan touches. Menu highlights include an Tartelette aux Petits Oignons (onion tart), Risotto aux Champignons Sauvages et Truffes (risotto of wild mushrooms) and Poulet Rôti au Romarin, Mousseline aux Pommes de Terre (roasted chicken with rosemary, potato mousseline). Desserts include Baba au Rhum and Soufflé au Cointreau. Soufflés are prepared in ovens dedicated to soufflé preparation. Speciality breads are made from grains milled in-house.
Jacques, the bar, is a great place to meet, relax on velvet banquettes and enjoy a selection of drinks, craft cocktails and nibble on French, Mediterranean and Moroccan finger foods. The atmosphere feels like the library/lounge in an exclusive club. There is a collection of books to browse and a fireplace sets the mood. A welcome addition to the Upper East Side, Jacques is open from 4 PM until midnight.
